Following graduation from Williams, Calvin married Elizabeth Borden Russell of Westfield, New Jersey. Collins did his internship and residency through the University of Rochester at Strong Memorial Hospital, participating in a US Air Force sponsorship. He remained a partner in the practice until his retirement in 1995. Collins served as chief of surgery and president of the hospital medical staff.Following completion of his residency, Calvin was commissioned into the Air Force, beginning what would be a fifteen year career. Following 2 1/2 years in Turkey, Cal and the family moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he joined the vascular surgery teaching staff at Wilford Hall Hospital, Lackland Air Force Base, and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He also worked along with several talented technicians and other colleagues to establish the Salem Hospital Non-Invasive Vascular Laboratory.In the Air Force, Rick was trained as a wide band communication technician and received his Associates Degree in Science during his nearly eight years in the military.His training took him to many locations including Mississippi, Texas, California & a mountain top in Turkey.Calvin Collins was born September 18, 1932 in Melrose, Massachusetts to Albert E. He graduated from Melrose High School in 1950, as president of the senior class and captain of the basketball team.Calvin went on to graduate from Williams College in 1954 and Harvard Medical School in 1958.He lived in Santa Clara, California until the age of 8, then his family moved to Milpitas, California.
She lived in Texas, New Jersey, Shreveport and, after retirement from the surgical intensive care unit as a nurse supervisor, moved to Oregon to be closer to her daughter and her family. Growing up he always loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and camping. He was a hard worker and took his jobs with pride no matter what the task was. He had many jobs throughout his life, most of them were general labor professions.His roses were some of the most beautiful flowers ever seen.Frank will be remembered for his generous heart, warm smile, playful nature and his never ending stories. Frank is survived by three sons and one daughter: Manuel (Manny) of Beaverton, David of Anchorage, Olivia of Beaverton and Danny of Salem; grandchildren: Nicole, Alexis, Andre, Jacob; great grandchild: Tobias; sister Aida Xavier.
He was a Tyng scholar which provided a full scholarship to Williams and Harvard.
